Hooks and Satin Threads

In a far away northern town of Cebu island, there is this little fishing village that i learned to love.

This is the home of Cebu's most talented manual fisherman. Thier means of catching fish is the traditional lure and hook method.

The most popular gear they used is the "plangre" . It is actually a very long fishing line with hundreds hooks attached decorated with satin threads to serve as lure.

This method is very effective in catching the "tolingan" , a smaller variety of the Tuna. Around 300 to 400 hooks are attached to a single "plangre" which is dragged by the fisherman crossing over a school of fish. And viola, if lucky enough, around 200 to 350 fishes are hooked in just one blow.
